Our orthodontist recommends that you bring in your child for their first orthodontic examination around age seven. This allows Dr. John R. Schouten to spot any issues and potential issues early, when they are easier to treat. Dr. John R. Schouten is happy to provide preventive treatment in Evanston, Wyoming. These treatments usually have shorter treatment times than future developments that have been left untreated.
Space Maintainers
Primary teeth help guide the permanent teeth into their optimal positions. When a permanent tooth is lost early because of decay or an accident, the neighboring teeth may drift into the space. This may prevent the permanent tooth from coming in correctly or at all. To prevent this, a space maintainer may be suggested. A space maintainer is an appliance that keeps the space open so that the permanent tooth can come in properly.
Guided Eruption
When treatment is begun while the front teeth are erupting, crowding can be prevented or reduced. More space is created, which allows for proper alignment.
Early Extraction
Sometimes a primary tooth does not come out when it should or does not come out on its own at all. When this is the case, extraction may be necessary so that the permanent tooth can erupt properly.
