Did you know there are things at your holiday parties that can harm your braces and smile? Well, it’s true. This is why our orthodontist, Dr. John R. Schouten, strongly encourages you to take very good care of your appliance and teeth. To help you do so, he has some helpful tips, which are:
-Stay away from appliance-damaging foods: This is important because hard-to-eat, sticky, and chewy foods can all pull the brackets off your teeth and bend the wires. These foods include those like caramel, toffee, apples, and more.
-Brush and floss: Clean your teeth and braces after you have eaten. Make sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and dental floss along with flossing tools that make the task easier around your appliance.
-Wear a mouthguard: If you play high-contact sports at your holiday parties, make sure to wear a mouthguard. That way if you get hit in the mouth, you can avoid oral injury.
