Oral hygiene is very important, especially when you’re aligning your teeth and smile. Oral hygiene can help you in a myriad of ways. In fact, it can help you have a healthy, strong and clean smile and it can help you have a more successful orthodontic journey. To help you properly maintain a top-notch oral hygiene routine when aligning the smile with Invisalign®, our orthodontist, Dr. John R. Schouten, is happy to give you the following tips:

-Brush after each meal: This is important because if you forget to brush, then the food particles and bacteria will be trapped under the aligner all day. This can promote dental issues, like cavities. So, keep your toothbrush and toothpaste in your backpack or purse so you can brush after each meal.

-Floss at least once a day: This can help you remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth and along your gums. If you can floss more, like after each time you eat, please do so. It can help you have a cleaner and healthier smile.

-Attend your routine dental checkups: Your dental checkups are very important if you want a strong and healthy smile as well as a convenient orthodontic journey. So, make sure to visit your dentist every six months.

-Clean your aligner: You can clean your appliance by rinsing it after each time you take it out of the mouth and by using the Invisalign cleaning kit as recommended.
