Invisalign ® is a popular method for adults who want to make some minor adjustments to their smile, without having to resort to wearing the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces. This involves using clear plastic aligner trays, that are hard for the casual observer to even notice.

The process starts by a Uinta Orthodontics orthodontist examining your mouth and taking a few X-rays. This will help define your alignment goals and serve as one of two guides to achieve them. Then the orthodontist will then take an impression of your teeth. All of this information is sent to the Invisalign laboratory where a series of aligner trays will be made to custom match your teeth.

You will need to wear the Invisalign for at least 20 hours each day. Every specific set of aligners is designed to gradually stretch the periodontal ligaments anchoring your teeth, to move them a little bit closer to your ideal smile.

Every two weeks you will switch to another set of aligners that are tuned a little closer to your alignment goals. The number of aligners needed will vary. Most people meet their alignment goals through the course of three to four sets of aligners.

Even though you can drink normally while wearing Invisalign, you should remove them before eating. You should never smoke or chew gum while the aligners are in your mouth, as this could potentially damage the aligners and cause further complications.

It’s best to keep the Invisalign aligners in the case provided, when you are not wearing them.
